I am proud of myself at the moment because when speaking in Spanish I was able to deliver an off-the-cuff joke! Qué rico!
When I got home from class today, Ana asked me if I wanted eggs for dinner. I said sure! So she sends my brother Angel to the store to buy eggs.
In this household of women (Ana, Alma, Delma and myself), Angel goes by one name only: El Chico (the boy). This alone cracks me up. I have yet to hear anyone call him Angel. Only El Chico.
Entonces, El Chico returns from the store with eggs and Ana starts whipping up omelets left and right. Then she realizes she’s out of milk, so she sends Angel to buy milk. Angel is totally compliant. And when he returns a second time, my host mom has realized that we’re out of Coke, so she sends Angel again. And finally, after the meal, she’s preparing tea to drink, and notices we’re out of sugar, too. So I perked up and said, “Podemos mandar El Chico!–We can send the boy!” Laughs all around.
